RASpberry TEChnical?

Although it was in an uunfinished state when we clocked it at FIghterama last November, this trick-framed turbo GSX looks like it'll be a real head turner when it's had the finishing touches completed.

Built by Rastec in Holland, there's already a host of innovative and clever touches...

SF195

Streetfighters issue 195 is currently fighting it's way through the postal system to subscribers, and will be appearing on newsagents' shelves next Thursday.

Oh, and a feature to give you some inspiration in what to do on your 'fighter this summer...

John Britten

Astoundingly, it's nearly fifteen years since the world lost John Britten, the Kiwi engineer and innovator, although his legacy continues not just in the legendary race bikes that he built, but in the way that they have influenced race (and road) bike design.
John Britten was an astounding man, and not just in the motorcycles that he built. The video that you can see here shows John at work on his bikes - fascinating footage of a revolutionary thinker at work, and inspiration for anyone who's interested in engineeering, the way he produced the bodywork shapes for example - and is also an insight into what he was capable of making aside from racing bikes.
Crap taste in jumpers though...

Nearly there...

SF196 is going through final corections, and Jo should have everything all shiny and nice by the end of play tomorrow, and on the way to the printers. The deadline shenanigans are the reason for a lack of posts here over the last few days, but we should be back in normal fashion now. Well, once we get back from the traditional post-deadline pub visit.
The new issue will be heading out to subscribers in a week's time...

Blast From The Past

While we find it quite astounding that many of our feature bikes seem to disappear off the face of the planet just as soon as we get them featured, there's occasionally a bike that'll crop up, years after it was featured, almost identical in shape and form as it was when it was photographed. This Suzuki appeared in an issue of Streetfighters way back in the early Nineties, complete with a bloke in a Simpson with a feckin' gert big machine gun, an iconic image that was replicated by Antoine Collignon of Artkore for one of his tee shirts (now available from the French magazine Street Monsters).
As per the original feature, the bike still has a double-clubfoot swinging arm in a rigid configuration with a Dymag rear wheel, still has the right-way-up Gixer front end, still has the big bore GSX engine, pro-pipe and nitrous. And best of all, is still seeing use on the public roads. Whoever the owner is, we salute you!

Straightliners 2010, Round 1

This Sunday, the 14th March, sees Round 1 of the Straightliners 2010 championship take place at Santa Pod Raceway in Northamptonshire. All the usual classes will be run - so that's the 11.10, 10.10 and 9.10 bracket classes, the Ultimate Streetbike classes of Pro, Unlimited, Up-to-1175 and Up-to-750, the premier road-legal class Top Bike, and the slick tyre and wheelie bars class of Comp Bike, plus the various scooter classes and junior class. Essentially, a class whatever bike you ride. Race entry is £35 for Straightliners members and £40 for non-members.
There's a run-what-yer-brung / test day on the Saturday, and overnight camping is available. Bearing in mind that this is one of only two bike-only events at the Pod, it's well worth supporting!
More details on 200mph
The weekend also plays host to the first round of the Straightliners stunt championship - if you've not see the level at which UK stunting has risen to over the last five years or so, it's worth the trip to the Pod for this alone! More behind-the-scenes gossip on stunting here

Family Ties

One of the great things about working for Streetfighters is watching bikes develop, and of seeing projects come to fruition. And that includes bikes that get built to run on the road, and then modified further until they become a feature bike.
This Honda is a prime example - a CB900 with a water-cooled CBR lump in place, uprated rolling gear and some neat and subtle modifications. We're keeping an eye out for the mods that this bike has for 2010...

Wherizit?

Clocked last year at the Streetfighters Sunday meeting in Prees, this Kawasaki ZRX is quite trick, in a subtle way. Would make for a nice feature if anyone knows it's whereabouts...

Ally Pally Winner

Last weekend's American Motorcycle Dealer World Custom Motorcycle Championship Show (or some such lengthy title) saw Sinister Steve Conway's blinged dragfighter Slabside GSX-R take away the trophy for Best Metric / Streetfighter! This pic wasn't actually taken at Alexandra Palace, but has been chosen to prove a point to the naysayers who claim that the bike doesn't run...

PJC Power

We just got this in from Mark at PJC Motor Services, with reference to the bike that is the centre spread beast in the new issue:-
"Just a quick update, we got the bike back from Big CC on Saturday with a power output of 284bhp! Sean was impressed with what he could get out of a stock motor and now coupled with the wet weight of the bike of 195kg the bike is now an animal! The owner's words were rolling on in 6th on the motorway was akin to pinning it in 2nd on a litre bike!"
Impressive stuff indeed, more more than a MotoGP bike from an internally stock Busa motor!

Calling London

London Calling.
Tomorrow night - that's Fruday 5th march, sees the Ace Cafe London hold one of its regular streetfighter nights, and now that evenings are beginning to draw out, and the temperature is picking up (there, that's cursed it, freezing fog and snow for tomorrow...) why not make a social trip to The Ace
